They offer quality guaranteed hot coffee and drinks in a 1917 heritage listed building. It has a strong historical background and you could learn a bit about John Charles Mills on the wall displays. I ordered a medium-sized cappuccino and it was exceptionally smooth, with a rich and well-balanced flavour. It was a thoroughly enjoyable cup 😊☕️

The chocolate was warm and smooth but a little bit too sweet for me, as I forgot to tell them I would like to have dark chocolate instead... Nevertheless, the service was good.

I really recommend this place, the staff are lovely, the coffee is delicious and the ambience is amazing. I love the vibe. With the pictures on the walls and exposed brick and I love the seating areas. 10/10 would definitely recommend!

Flat white is my favorite drink and they make a really good one. I’d highly recommend coming here if you want a good cup of coffee. If you bring your own cup you also get a discount. The store smells amazing and the service was great. Love the atmosphere and music. Highly recommended.

Whilst trying to follow Google Maps' instructions, I got lost down some random alley and had to ask a local how to get here. Luckily, the lady knew of this café and personally led me to the entryway. (Brisbanites are so friendly!) So if you're trying to find this place, look out for the little wooden sign outside the building, then enter and continue downstairs. You'll know you're on the right track when you see a dim, sketchy-looking corridor that looks straight out of a horror movie 😂. Continue on right until the end and voilà, you'll find this amazing hidden gem of a café! I arrived 15 minutes before closing, and I was so worried I would be annoying the baristas, but they were so warm, friendly and welcoming! The flat white tasted great, and I chatted with the baristas about why the café was called John Mills, and they even gave me recommendations for other cafés for my trip. Such a great experience, and I highly recommend this place for all coffee lovers. So glad I got to try out this spot during my time in Brisbane! P.S. I've attached pictures so hopefully you'll have an easier time finding it than I did 🤣

June 25: This is one of my must-visit cafes in BNE and it didn’t disappoint. Love the vintage vibes and I was lucky to arrive ahead of the office coffee crowds! I enjoyed my cup of flat white and the vibrant energy in the morning. Dec 25: Second visit when I am back in town, and the hot chocolate is out of the world! p/s: it is easier to locate the cafe if you come from Elizabeth St, and look out of the car park entrance opp Uptown.

A good coffee, fast service, and friendly staff. There isn't much more you'd like from a cafe. Coming from interstate, this little joint was amongst the top of the recommendations given to me by my friends and it did not disappoint. Drinks were decently priced for the city and were served very quickly! The iced Batch Brew allowed me to add the coffee to the ice at my own pace to allow it to stay cold without diluting the flavour. Very well brewed ! Could really taste the bean characteristics in this one! Despite the 30 degree day, the hot chocolate was also a high recommendation that lived up to its hype. Not too sweet, very smooth, rich in its chocolate flavour. John Mills Himself lived up to the hype! Highly recommended.

Have been waiting to try the coffee from this place for a long time, tough to get in when working weekdays!. You guys did not disappoint. Coffee was on point. The dark chocolate bitterness in the cappuccino beautifully complemented the overall flavour, adding depth and balance to the cup. Very impressed. Only fault I had was I like my cappuccino in a mug with a handle rather than a latte glass. That’s just me being fussy though!.

I ordered a latte, and it was absolutely spot-on—rich, smooth, and perfectly brewed with that great aromatic punch that makes you appreciate a really good barista. Paired with their chocolate brownie, which was fudgy, decadent, and just the right amount of indulgent, it made for an unbeatable treat and it was GF. The staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming, adding to the relaxed, cozy vibe of the place. Whether you’re grabbing a quick takeaway or lingering for a moment, the service feels warm and unpretentious.
